Scrap the Negatives!

After some 30 odd years, it is quite the change to be back in the territory of my old stomping grounds.  As with any change, there will be positive and negative issues that arise.  I like to focus on the positive and move forward.  One of the positives that has occurred is that I have a few pieces of my art on display at the exquisite new gallery in historic downtown Troy, Ohio ~ The Art Vault.  Displaying the works of fifty or so artists, the Art Vault offers a lovely selection to view and purchase. If you are in the area, I encourage you to stop by...you will not be disappointed. Here is The Art Vault's website link ~ http://www.theartvaultgallery.com/default.html

Another positive is that my desire to share my written art, namely my poetry, got the better of me.  These word images of nature and her seasons are now in paperback form.  My poetry book is titled Earthy Fragrance and can be bought through Amazon.com.  Here is the link ~ http://www.amazon.com/Earthy-Fragrance-Elizabeth-L-Langford/dp/1479295116/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1349607828&sr=1-1&keywords=Earthy+Fragrance

Getting back to the canvas images, I am currently working on two new oils...one being a skyscape and the other a floral, a reflection of the influence of one of my favorite artists, Georgia O'Keefe.  Also, I am dabbling in the pastels again.  Of course I have a multitude of ideas swirling in my head.  As the dust of moving continues to settle and a routine can be established, I grab all of the opportunities I can to create, staying positive~moving forward!  Thank you for stopping by! I wish you much joy like unto the bright autumn splendour that paints the landscape as the year winds down~moves forward.

Back and Forward

I'm very happy to be back in my home state!  –enjoying family gatherings and becoming acquainted once again with the once familiar landscape as well as roads here, there, and everywhere.  Have I gotten lost yet?  Naaaaah...just have made a few, shall I say, unscheduled side trips. ;)  There have been a smattering of changes with new buildings..houses, stores, schools.., but the essence of the landscape remains the same which is, shall I say, comforting.  Now that I'm back, I look forward to getting settled, pulling out the paints and all the other creative tools and posting new work hot off the easel!!..soon, soon.  God bless and enjoy what remains of the summer.  8)

Newness

Just love the newness of spring!  It is such a refreshing and invigorating time...to smell the earthy fragrance and hear the birds on the wing as well as warmer temps punctuated by rumbling thunderstorms.  This is my favorite time of the year...a time to hike and take loads of pics, a time to be inspired and create!!  Presently, I have three paintings in the works and many ideas that just might make it to canvas/paper at some point down the road.  I write 'at some point down the road' because I have been quite busy in another direction.  I am in the process of boxing many of my things, preparing for a several hundred mile move in the near future...that is, as long as I am able to land a 'day' job.  I, like many artists, have to pay the bills and therefore have to have a 'day' job.  I enjoy what I do now, working with students in the public school system and pray that I will be able to continue to do so in my future, new locale.  It is truly a wonderful blessing to be able to enjoy what you do!

Riding the Roller Coaster

So how are you liking the weather roller coaster ride?  ..not caring too much for it myself ...seems to be affecting just about everyone with either allergies or colds, of which I seem to have unfortunately fallen victim of the latter.  So my post will be quite short (okay, you can stop cheering now! haha)...the energy level has dwindled to almost nothing and I can hear my pillow demanding that I get some much needed rest.  I do wish to mention that I discovered a few paintings that I've place in the galleries, one of which is a floral available for purchase.  I have also added a new page that will host my calligraphy pieces...so take a peek!  Well, that's it, that's all there is for now.

CHALLENGES

Posted by Elizabeth on March 10, 2012 at 6:00 PM Comments comments (0)

Determining what to write on your first blog can be exciting and challenging at the same time. So, I thought I would use that word, challenges, as my focal point...quite an appropriate word for this first write-up I think. Okay, so what do you envision when you hear the word 'artist'?  Can we shatter the presumption that some may have ~that an artist is carefree? Let's!

Many artists (and non-artists) would love to be carefree, creating art 24/7, however for many that just isn't feasible. We face daily challenges like everyone else trying to squeeze in what we love amid the daily grind of a '9-5' work schedule, household chores from laundry, to taking out the garbage, to washing the dishes...and I swear that my kitchen sink is magnetized! haha

Other challenges artists often face include ~creating something fresh and original, being satisfied with the finished piece which means refraining from making another adjustment here, another one there, changing this, changing that, and so on and on. There are challenges to staying focused and not be distracted by ~ the cell phone, the computer, books, house cleaning, other paintings that are in progress, and yes those bloomin' dishes in that magnetized sink!  ;-)  Sometimes, just letting go of a particular painting can be challenging too...hence my 'Collection of the Artist'.

I hope that you've enjoyed viewing my work and if so, please kindly share my site with others...shall I call it a challenge? ~ thankfully some challenges are easily met, just click on the share button on my home page~ 'Send to a Friend'.  I greatly appreciate and thank you for helping to get my work 'out there'!

Now, I face the challenge of gracefully ending my first blog. It is my hope to update my blog at regular intervals ~weekly/bi-weekly..depending on the challenges in front of me, and keep all of you abreast of my newest creations. In the meantime, I hope that your life and those that you love will find some peace as you face your daily challenges AND are able to be creative in spite of them!

Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind,     live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.

~2 Corinthians 13:11

The Lord's blessings upon you. あ
